POPE’S GENERAL AUDIENCE: Solidarity needed to rebuild post-pandemic community

Taken from https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2020-09/pope-francis-general-audience-pandemic-solidarity-faith.html

Pope Francis continued his catechesis series on the topic “Healing the world”, at the weekly General Audience.

Solidarity is more than “a few sporadic acts of generosity.” Rather, he said, solidarity involves creating a mindset which thinks “in terms of community and the priority of life of all over the appropriation of goods by a few.”

The Pope went on to reflect on the Biblical account of the tower of Babel (Gen 11:1-9).

When humanity tries to reach to heaven while ignoring our relationship with each other, creation, and the Creator, we wind up unifying languages and constructing skyscrapers – but we “destroy community” and “mortify cultural wealth”.

Another unfortunate result, said the Pope, is that we instrumentalize others as a workforce, rather than building up a community.

Pentecost, said Pope Francis, is the answer and antithesis of Babel.

Descending upon the community, “the Spirit creates unity in diversity; He creates harmony.”

“With Pentecost,” he said, “God makes Himself present and inspires the faith of the community united in diversity and in solidarity.”

Alpha Online – 9 September @ 7:30pm

Do you have questions about Life and Faith. Why not join us on our next Alpha Online starting on 9 September at 19h30.
Alpha runs once a week over 12 weeks. It’s an opportunity to come and explore life’s big questions about life and faith. It’s a place where you can really dig into and discuss those questions that may be difficult to discuss in other places. We meet each week, listen to an engaging talk, and then meet in small discussion groups to have a casual conversation.
We encourage everyone to invite 5 people to join us on this journey. Alpha is a great way to invite family and friends to explore or understand the basics of Christianity in a casual and non judgemental environment. If you have people in your life who no longer go to church, or do not know Jesus. Please invite them to attend Online Alpha.

Beatrice is continuing RCIA classes online.  Anyone who would like to join the class should message or phone her on  082 450 4798
