First Sunday Confirmation Class for 2020
January 19 @ 9:15 am - 10:30 am
The Sacrament of Confirmation is the final Sacrament of Initiation into the Catholic Church. It is a gift left us by Jesus, as he promised:
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you. These things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
This Counselor is the Holy Spirit whom we receive at Baptism, and who comes to us again in a special way at Confirmation.
The Church we are initiated into at the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Body of Christ, is a family because we are all brothers and sisters of Jesus himself, and sons and daughters of our Father in heaven. This great family is made up of ordinary people like us in ordinary families of all sorts like ours. Our Parish should also be a family, waiting to catch those who stumble or fall, and each of our little families should be a mirror again of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph and a mirror of the family which is the Parish, the Diocese and the whole Church.
This is what we are confirmed into, into this amazing community, Church and Body of Christ.
Our First Class 2020
For our first class this year, all candidates must attend with their families and their sponsors. We need to establish what it is we are trying to do as a community, to agree what that is and to make a commitment to it.
