They are Pierre van Horick, Michael Tharcisse , Peter Okonkwo , Joshua Harvey, Refilwe Motseta, Gugu (Chantelle) Nkosi, Erica Williams and Angela Rademeyer and they will be accompanied by Fr Simon Donnelly who has been involved in their preparation for this momentous opportunity.
They will depart Johannesburg on 13 July for Sao Paulo and the plan is that they will spend 4 days with families at the Santo Amaro parish where they will be involved in parish events, do some sight-seeing and experience authentic Brazilian culture. From there they will travel to Aparecida where the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady Aparecida is located. They will be at this great Marian pilgrimage centre with the OMI’s for the Missionary Week, also known as Days in the Diocese.
Finally, from 23- 28 July the official WYD events in Rio will take place with an expected 3 online casinos million pilgrims under the watchful eye of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado!
The program includes catechesis sessions, daily mass and the main events with our Holy Father. The Pope will celebrate the opening mass on Copacabana beach, which will also be the location for the Stations of the cross. WYD comes to a close with the all night Saturday vigil of Eucharistic Adoration under the stars at the Campus Fidei and the closing mass the following morning.
The youth will have a full day to explore Rio before a bus trip back to Sao Paulo and return on 31 July. We pray that this pilgrimage will bear fruit in the lives of the young people concerned as well as in our Community and they go with our prayerful support.
