Synod Renewal Theme Reflection Resources

Dear Parish Priests and Synod Champions

I am happy to send to you the Reflection Resource Pack for the first of the Synod themes, Renewal. It also contains the summary and the reflection questions for the theme.

It now remains to you to lead your parish through a process of reflection on each theme, using the contents of the resource pack. The process that each of you uses may be unique to your own particular parish. The important thing is that as many people in your parish as possible have the opportunity to be part of the process. Use your Small Christian Communities, your groups and sodalities to disseminate the material and facilitate the discussion.

It remains your responsibility to integrate the responses from the various groups into a single submission that gives us the consensus view, as far as possible, of your parish.

Within the next week or two I will send you the resource packs for the remaining themes, as well as a link to a Google document for you to submit your answers to the reflection questions. The deadline for the submission of the answers is mid-August. This will enable the panels of experts to summarise the submissions and then prepare a discussion document for each theme which will be the starting point of the Synod deliberations.

This is a privileged moment for us as an Archdiocese to discern, together with our Archbishop, where the Spirit of God is calling us to, and what kind of parishes will be most effective in building up the Kingdom Of God here in the Archdiocese of Johannesburg.

Yours in Christ

Fr Bruce Botha SJ, Episcopal Vicar for Evangelisation
